5 Red Wines Under $20 that Taste Expensive (Sold at LCBO)

I love red wine, and I love saving money. This blog brings together two of my favourite things as I share 5 secret gems that you will always find in my bar.

The following 5 Red Wines can be found at most LCBO’s and are all under $20!

  1. RAVENSWOOD VINTNERS BLEND OLD VINE ZINFANDEL, CALIFORNIA $17.95

Juicy, fruity and smooth, this über popular red helped put 'Zin' on the map. With low tannins and dark berry flavours, it’s a great option for turkey eaters who prefer red wine.

  2. VINA MONTES KAIKEN RESERVA MALBEC, ARGENTINA $14.95

Malbec is the darling in everyone’s glass, and this easy-drinking red is a real crowd-pleaser. With ripe red fruit and spicy notes, this is perfect for dinner parties featuring red meat–or curling up next to a roaring fire.

  3. LOUIS M. MARTINI CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CALIFORNIA $18.95

Just like Chardonnay, good California Cabs are usually priced somewhere in the stratosphere, but this velvety red from Sonoma County offers juicy dark fruit and warming spiciness for a terrific value.

  4. LES PEYRIERES CÔTES DU RHÔNE, FRANCE $13

Full-bodied and smooth, this is a great partner for winter braises and roasted meats. With flavours of dark fruit, spice and leather, this is a heart-warming red for when, baby, it’s cold outside.

  5. HENRY OF PELHAM FAMILY ESTATE BACO NOIR, ONTARIO $14.95

Like Hudson Bay blankets and Canada Goose parkas, the snowy season inspires cravings for things that remind us of home. It really can’t get any more Canuck than uniquely Canadian Baco, and Niagara’s Henry of Pelham makes one of the best. With flavours of blueberry, blackberry, chocolate and spice, pair this with stewed venison, tourtière or short rib poutine.
